This page publishes three things a Florida driver or researcher can cite: the verified window-tint limit table transcribed straight from the 2025 Florida Statutes, 16 months of measured search demand for Florida tint-law questions, and the aggregated mix of what 267 real inquiries and Google reviews asked our Punta Gorda shop. It’s the data companion to our Florida window tint laws guide — the guide explains the law; this page is the table, the numbers, and the sources. Free to cite with a link. Not legal advice — confirm current requirements with the FLHSMV.
Every figure in this table is transcribed from the 2025 Florida Statutes and cited to its subsection. Light transmittance (VLT) is the share of visible light a window lets through — a higher percentage means lighter tint. Reflectance is how much light the film bounces back. Every measured percentage carries a ±3% tolerance (FS 316.2955).
| Window | Passenger car | Multipurpose (SUV / van / truck) | Statute |
|---|---|---|---|
| Windshield | Transparent sunscreening strip above the AS/1 line only — no tint below it | Same | FS 316.2952 |
| Front side windows | ≥ 28% VLT · ≤ 25% reflectance | ≥ 28% VLT · ≤ 25% reflectance | FS 316.2953 |
| Rear side windows | ≥ 15% VLT · ≤ 35% reflectance | ≥ 6% VLT · ≤ 35% reflectance | FS 316.2954 |
| Rear window | ≥ 15% VLT · ≤ 35% reflectance | ≥ 6% VLT · ≤ 35% reflectance | FS 316.2954 |

People increasingly ask AI assistants what’s legal — which is why this page publishes a citeable table and its sources. Monthly AI-assistant query volumes (DataForSEO AI keyword data, US, retrieved Jul 21, 2026):
| AI query | AI searches / month |
|---|---|
| window tinting | 34,775 |
| legal tint in florida | 3,447 |
| florida tint laws | 1,220 |
| darkest legal tint in florida | 800 |
| home window tinting | 563 |
| ceramic window tint | 340 |
These are market-level figures from DataForSEO, not our site’s data. “Florida tint laws” alone draws roughly 1,220 AI-assistant searches a month — the questions this page answers are being asked of machines, and the machines need a sourced table to cite.
We classified 267 items — 91 genuine written inquiries to our website form (Nov 2025 – Jul 2026) plus 176 Google reviews of our listing (Oct 2015 – Jul 2026). By service type:
| Service type | Count | Share of 267 |

| Residential & home tint | 13 | 4.9% |
| Other (below 5-count floor, folded) | 7 | 2.6% |
Automotive tint is the clear majority of what people write and review about. One honest note: 16 items are car-audio or electronics work — our audio side genuinely shows up in the review base, and we report it rather than hide it.
Narrowing to just the 91 website form messages (where intent is clearest): 73 (80.2%) are quote or price requests, and 64 (70.3%) are about automotive tint, with residential/home tint (10) and ceramic coating (5) behind it.
From the 76 question-flagged items, the recurring themes (published where a theme reaches our 5-count floor):

The tint-limit table. Transcribed directly from the 2025 Florida Statutes, ss. 316.2951–316.29545 (flsenate.gov), read Jul 21, 2026, with each row cited to its subsection; the medical-exemption procedure references FLHSMV form HSMV 83390. Florida Statutes are public records — the numeric limits are freely citeable. This is a plain-language transcription of the numbers, not legal advice.
Written inquiries (n=91). All 119 submissions to our Elementor contact form (Nov 21, 2025 – Jul 21, 2026) started the count. We removed 24 of our own automated form-health tests and 2 URL-spam messages mechanically, then hand-reviewed every remaining borderline item and removed 1 business solicitation (a pressure-washing pitch) and 1 literal “TEST” submission — leaving 91 genuine inquiries. Each was classified by service type and inquiry kind; no published category count is below 5.
Google reviews (n=176). Reviews of our “Sunguard Window Tint/Ceramic Coating” Google listing (Oct 2015 – Jul 2026), pulled via DataForSEO: 146 with text, 30 rating-only (included in the sample, no text signal). Average rating 4.64; 156 of 176 are five-star (88.6%) and 13 are one-star — we publish the average with the full distribution available, not just the five-star share. Reviews cluster after December 2025 (a recency skew we note rather than smooth).
Search interest. Google Search Console impressions for sgtint.com, Mar 1 2025 – Jun 30 2026, grouped into non-overlapping query classes; brand queries excluded. This measures interest reaching one shop’s site, driven largely by our own ranking improvement — not statewide search volume. AI-assistant volumes are market-level figures from DataForSEO AI keyword data (US, retrieved Jul 21, 2026).
What this page is not: a claim about all Florida drivers, or a market-size study. It is the verified statute table, the search interest our own site measured, and the aggregated mix of what real people wrote and reviewed. We dropped one extract flag (a “tint percentage mentioned” signal) that proved unreliable rather than estimate around it.
On the front side windows of any vehicle, Florida requires at least 28% light transmittance (VLT) and no more than 25% reflectance (FS 316.2953). Behind the driver, passenger cars must keep at least 15% VLT while SUVs, vans and other multipurpose vehicles may go as dark as 6% VLT, both capped at 35% reflectance (FS 316.2954). Windshields allow only a transparent strip above the AS/1 line (FS 316.2952). Every percentage carries a ±3% tolerance (FS 316.2955). Figures transcribed from the 2025 Florida Statutes; not legal advice — verify with the FLHSMV.
Yes, behind the driver. On rear side windows and the rear window, passenger cars must keep at least 15% VLT, but multipurpose vehicles — SUVs, vans and trucks — may tint down to 6% VLT (FS 316.2954). Front side windows are the same for both: at least 28% VLT (FS 316.2953).
Yes. Drivers with qualifying conditions can apply to the FLHSMV for a sunscreening medical exemption certificate using form HSMV 83390 (FS 316.29545). The certificate names the specific vehicle. Apply through the FLHSMV, not the tint shop.
For a driver, a tint violation is a nonmoving traffic infraction under chapter 318. Selling or installing noncompliant film is more serious — a second-degree misdemeanor (FS 316.2956(3)). Replacing or repairing legally installed film is not a violation.
Heavily. Over 16 months, tint-law questions were the largest search band reaching our site — 112,643 of 260,916 classed impressions (43%), peaking at 37,745 in March 2026. And AI assistants field the questions too: “window tinting” draws 34,775 searches a month and “legal tint in florida” 3,447 (DataForSEO, retrieved July 21, 2026).
Quotes and automotive work. Of our 91 genuine written inquiries, 73 (80.2%) were quote or price requests and 64 (70.3%) were about automotive tint. Across all 267 classified inquiries and reviews, automotive tint was the leading service type (147), ahead of ceramic coating/PPF (14) and residential tint (13).
